Deadwood, SD - Artifacts & Cemetery Joss Burner
Deadwood has taken what small collection of artifacts and heritage remaining and made a nice tribute to their Chinese history. Their Main Street contains a nice marker for one to read about the Chinese history. What is wonderful about Deadwood, is not the hurtful stereotypical TV show of Mr. Wu’s character as a laundryman but the fact that other ethnicities equally lived in Chinatown. Their visitors center has a small collection of artifacts that was discovered.
Their History Museum is small but has an impressive ornate collection of Chinese artifacts. Many of their pieces are pretty rare. Yet, here in this small town is an accurate display with these beautiful pieces are in original condition.
Mt Moriah Cemetery
Quite an impressive white Joss Burner at the cemetery. Many of the ancestral graves have been exhumed with minimal original families remaining at the cemetery at all. A wonderful marker has been added to the Chinese section of the cemetery with a great picture of a traditional Chinese funeral using the Joss burner. The Joss burner has been restored but very nicely done.
