Santa Cruz, CA - Chinese Cemetery & Chinatown Bridge

A quick stop but nonetheless nice to see Chinese heritage memorialized.

The Chinese section of the 1858 Evergreen Cemetery is one of the most wonderful tributes to our ancestors. In line with many ancient Chinese traditions, the burial is along the mountainside. This original burial was has many elements of Chinese graveyard with good Feng Shui which is typically selected based on many requirements. Such graveyard Feng Shui determines the protection of ones offspring bringing them peace, health, fortune, good luck and other positive qualities. The entrance has a Joss path sign. At the cemetery gate, you will see a beautiful memorial and bronze markers. The bronze markers were carefully made with the homage to our ancestors who were laborers that died. Many used wooden or brick blocks to inscribe their names so that in the future, their bodies would be exhumed and sent to their ancestral plots.

Chinatown Bridge

The nontraditional arch is colorful with a dragon creating the archway. There are informative markers in front of the bridge.
