Red Bluff - Chinatown
It all begins with a stretch along Main Street to the end of Walnut Street to the beginning of High Street (now Rio Street) and ending on Rio Street and Antelope Blvd. Maybe you would want to stop for lunch, the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, located at 860 Main St, Red Bluff, CA 96080 has a picture in their lobby of the Ming Terrace Restaurant.
The Ming Terrace Restaurant was the last Chinese restaurant and one of the last Chinese residence to operate in the historic Chinatown closing in 1973. The building was purchased by the Chew family, who lived inside Chinatown at 838 Rio Street, Red Bluff, CA from 1923 until they relocated to living quarters above the Ming Terrace restaurant in 1947.
On July 31, 2021, a traditional Chinese funeral procession traveled around 860 Main Street, Red Bluff, CA and through the former Chinatown ending on Reeds Creek Road in honor of Joe You Chew, who was 99.5 years old and the last Chew family resident in Tehama County. It was the last time a Chinese procession would be held from one of the original Chinese families in Tehama County.
The Restaurant and the Chew Yuen building are the last existing commercial structures from Chinatown.
